KUALA LUMPUR: Public Bank Bhd has appointed its director Lai Wan as deputy chairman with immediate effect.
The appointment was made two weeks after the demise of the bank’s former deputy chairman Datuk Seri Lee Kong Lam.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, Public Bank said Lai, 74, had 43 years of experience in the banking and finance-related industries and was appointed a director of the bank on April 26, 2012.
He had served Bank Negara Malaysia for 20 years, with the last position before his resignation in 1985 being deputy manager of bank examination and internal audit department.
Public Bank said Lai had working experience in three finance companies from 1985 to 1994.
He was appointed president/chief executive officer of Pacific Bank Bhd in 1997 until his retirement on December 31, 2000.
Upon his retirement from full-time employment, Lai continued to be engaged in finance related industries through his directorships in various companies.
