Gamuda Land partners with ENGIE to speed the development of sustainable townships

KUALA LUMPUR: Gamuda Land Sdn Bhd will collaborate with ENGIE, a global specialist in low-carbon energy and services, to construct sustainable townships in Malaysia with solar-powered rooftops and green mobility.

Gamuda Land chief executive officer Chu Wai Lune said this partnership with ENGIE will serve as a springboard for the developer to pursue a wider scope of energy-efficient opportunities that can complement its carbon reduction efforts.

According to him, the partnership is aligned with Gamuda Land's sustainability framework, the Gamuda Green Plan, which is built on an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework that charts tangible targets for the company to reduce its carbon emissions intensity by 30 per cent by 2025 and by 45 per cent by 2030.

Chu said Gamuda Land and ENGIE will explore and implement solar technology, energy efficiency, and sustainable transportation solutions, among others, in the developer's townships such as Gamuda Cove in Kuala Langat, Gamuda Gardens in Rawang, and twentyfive7 in Kota Kemuning in Selangor.

Chu said the company designed and planned its townships with a target to achieve at least a 30 per cent overall reduction in carbon emissions, as compared to the business-as-usual design.

"Gamuda Land is always on the lookout for innovative ideas and methods that can be implemented to increase the sustainability of our townships," he said.

Thomas Baudlot, CEO of Energy Solutions APAC and country head for Southeast Asia at ENGIE Southeast Asia, said this partnership is a testament to how the association between the right partners can help streamline, accelerate, and amplify what is possible in the realm of sustainable development.

"We are excited to partner with Gamuda Land to advance the development of sustainable townships in Malaysia. We look forward to helping the company realise the ambitious sustainability targets of their Gamuda Green Plan and to building a better future together," he said.
