Iconic Group's Marjorie Hotel is now part of Marriott International's umbrella

KUALA LUMPUR: Iconic Group's subsidiary, Iconic Penang Sdn Bhd (IPSB), has signed a franchise agreement with Marriott International, which will see the soon-to-be-launched 298-room Iconic Marjorie Hotel in Penang being part of the Tribute Portfolio, one of the brands under Marriott International's umbrella.

The move solidifies Iconic Group's position in the luxury hotel sector and promises a new level of service and sophistication for travellers to Penang.

Iconic Group chairman Datuk Seri Tan Kean Tet said that as the company continues to build its presence in the hotel industry, Iconic Group has sought to work with only the most desirable partners.

He said Marriott International is the world's largest hotel company and consistently delivers the highest service, style and sophistication.

"I believe our partnership will further unlock the potential value of IWB's property and hotel assets, leveraging Marriott's extraordinary brand and presence," he said in a statement.

Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow witnessed the signing ceremony on Thursday. Also present at the event were Penang exco for tourism and creative economy Wong Hon Wai, exco for housing and environment Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu, exco for agrotechnology, food security and cooperative development Fahmi Zainol and Penang state exco for local government, town and country planning Jason H'ng Mooi Lye.

Slated to open in 2024, the five-star Iconic Marjorie Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, will be a new landmark in the heart of Bayan Lepas, Penang.

Iconic Group has appointed Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) to lead interior design efforts at the Iconic Marjorie Hotel.

"We look forward to growing and fostering a close and long-term relationship with IWB as we welcome them to our community of owners and strive to continue creating mutually beneficial opportunities," said Marriott International senior vice president, development, Asia Pacific excluding China Kevin Chen.

"Each Tribute Portfolio hotel celebrates individuality, and I have no doubt that Iconic Marjorie Hotel, Penang, will exceed expectations in offering both leisure and business travellers a thoroughly enjoyable stay and a fresh, colourful, and deeply meaningful perspective of Penang," he said.
