BYD unleashes Seal in Malaysia at RM179,800

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD Cars Malaysia's long-awaited  premium electric vehicle (EV) has finally arrived at the local dealerships.

The BYD Seal is available in RWD Premium and Performance AWD variants, with prices starting from RM179,800 and RM199,800 respectively. 

Sime Darby Bhd group chief executive officer Datuk Jeffri Salim Davidson said the introduction of Seal in Malaysia represents a noteworthy addition to the company's growing EV market.

"The car is undoubtedly one of the most compelling EVs in the market today with its advanced technologies, impeccable design and remarkable performance".

"The interest shown by consumers leading up to the launch has been overwhelmingly positive. We are excited to see how it will reshape e-mobility in Malaysia and the region," said BYD Asia Pacific auto sales division general manager Liu Xueliang. 

"Today's launch is pivotal for BYD in Malaysia. The vehicle is the epitome of what BYD stands for - innovation, quality, and a relentless pursuit of excellence," he added. 

Based on an advance e-platform 3.0, the Seal is said to be the brand's first model equipped with the innovative CTB (cell-to-body) technology which integrates the Blade Battery coupled with a revolutionary iTAC technology. 

The iTAC intelligent torque adaptation control system ensures optimal performance in varying driving conditions, while the 50:50 front and rear axle load distribution ensures a more balanced and responsive driving experience.

It is also the world's first mass-produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain system. 

The car, rooted in the "Ocean Aesthetics" philosophy, is designed by BYD's global chief designer Wolfgang Egger. 

It is inspired by the "X" concept which combines style and performance with its aerodynamic, coupe-like design to enhance both appeal and efficiency.

Feature highlights includes a wave waistline, waterdrop mirrors, panoramic glass roof and LED tail light.

It has 400 litres of boot space and an additional 50 litres under the bonnet. 

The car is 4800mm long and 1875mm wide. It has a Thaumas Black interior, along with the crystal gearshift.

The highlight is 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen that sits at the heart of its cabin. 

Other cabin features includes a premium HIFI Dynaudio sound system and an advanced PM2.5 filtration system. 

It has a five-star safety rating from ANCAP, adhering to the stringent 2023-25 testing criteria. 

Safety features include nine airbags, along with active safety measures like the ADAS and a high-resolution 360 camera system.

Its battery is IP67-rated battery while delivering a NEDC driving range up to 650KM. 

The car is capable of accelerating up to 0-100 kph in 3.8 seconds while its fast-charging capability is up to 150kW. 

Both variants sport 19-inch 235/45 R19 alloy wheels. 

Colour options include Arctic Blue (exclusive to the Performance variant), Cosmos Black, Atlantis Grey, and Aurora White (available for Premium). 

This package includes a six-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty, an eight-year or 160,000km battery warranty, and an eight-year or 150,000km drive unit warranty.

The first 800 bookings will enjoy complimentary wallbox chargers and free Gentari or ChargEV charging credits worth RM800.
