KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines and IndiGo have entered into a strategic codeshare partnership, expanding travel options between Malaysia and India, and enhancing connectivity and traveller experience to key destinations in both countries.
The partnership follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in April 2024 aimed to boost connectivity between Malaysia and India.
Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) "This strategic partnership reflects our mutual commitment to boosting tourism growth between our nations, especially with the visa-free entry for tourists between the two countries," Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail said.
"At the moment, both Malaysia and India have announced a waiver on the visa fee for tourists from both countries up to 30 days per entry, with Malaysian nationals valid until June 30, 2025 and Indian passport holders until Dec 31, 2024.
IndiGo chief executive officer Pieter Elbers said the strategic alliance is a testament to its commitment to bridging the skies between India and Malaysia, unlocking unparalleled connectivity and convenience for our customers in both the countries.
Malaysia Airlines customers will gain access to new domestic destinations in India with the airline's flight code "MH" added to seven destinations including Kolkata, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam. Meanwhile, IndiGo's "6E" flight code will be added to Malaysia Airlines domestic flights, including destinations such as Penang, Langkawi and Kuching.
