JOHOR BAHRU: It has been a long time coming and Perodua says it will finally launch a new Alza come 2022.
Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said during the Myvi Warriors media drive conference that the current Alza model, despite being 13 years old, is still popular amongst Malaysians.
The 7-seater multipurpose vehicle (MPV) model still receives around 1,500 bookings a month.
"From a business perspective there is no need to fix what is not broken. However, Perodua has a role in introducing the latest technology features to our customers on top of affordability. It is for this we feel it is only right to introduce a new Alza," said Zainal.
The current model is said to be discontinued come January 2022. No date was given however on when the new model will be introduced.
Additionally, Zainal said November saw one of the highest booking figures for the company at 38,000. It has also accumulated 14,600 orders for its new Myvi 2022 as of Dec 2. It registered 42,288 Myvi units between Jan and Nov this year. The new Myvi launched on Nov 18.
The top range AV model received the most booking with the Granite Grey being the most popular colour.
Perodua is aiming for its highest ever monthly registration in its history with at least 30,000 units registration in Dec as it targets to end the year with over 200,000 units sold.
This is to make up for its weaker numbers for the year as between Jan and Nov 2021, Perodua has registered 167,250 units for overall sales. This is a reduction of 14.2 per cent compared to the 194,980 units registered in the same period last year.
Citing how intermittent disruption impacted production, the company's Nov sales reportedly saw a decreased by 27.1 per cent compared to its previous record breaking month of Oct - registering 20,299 units for Nov, down from the 27,858 units registered in Oct.
At present the company is hoping to convert the 11,000 remaining bookings of the older Myvi into the new one which would factor into Dec's results.
Though still short of its targeted sales as of November, Perodua is hopeful they can hit 200,000 unit sales by the end of the year.
Zainal is positive that the company can meet an overall 240,000 figure forecast for next year though it is only a preliminary estimation and that a more accurate forecast will be shared in late January 2022.
