CNY-themed photos captured on iPhones

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of iPhone photographers recently went out to capture images of Chinese New Year celebrations beyond the traditional Chinatown, by focusing more on authentic and original scenes from the heartlands of Malaysia. These included stories from the people behind many traditions like lion dancing and preparing lanterns for temples, and who work hard to make sure the festive period is so special for everyone.

Besides the photos, the photographers also shared the story behind their photos as well as the features and apps they used to get the shots. You can follow them on their Instagram accounts.

For example, photographer husband and wife duo “Hux” and Shaz also visited Thean Hou Temple and met with Sula, a helper at Thean Hou Temple for the past 25 years who is originally from Madura, Indonesia. Sula shared she is looking forward to Chinese New Year and finds it exciting as the number of visitors to the temple multiplies and the energy is different, she finds particularly amazing to see all the people from different ages who come and visit the temple.

Meanwhile, Sher Reen visited cafes and restaurants in the Kwai Chai Hong area as they unite to usher the new year in with the introduction of lanterns in their shared back alley which added a fun element to the existing murals.

For Amsyar Naaif, the early celebrations at Sin Sze Si Ya Temple at Petaling Street, which featured dragon dances attarcted his attention.
