Aliff Aziz apologises to wife over scuffle; to be charged in court today

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer and actor Aliff Aziz, who has been under public scrutiny for allegedly assaulting his wife Dayang Nurnabellah Awang Astillah last week, has reportedly made peace with her.

Aliff was released on police bail on Saturday after being detained on Friday under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18 (A) of the Domestic Violence Act 1994 for assault.

He has since apologised for the scuffle, which occurred after he left his wife during her 20th day of confinement, to go to a karaoke centre in Cheras with actress Afifah Nasir.

“What I can say is this involves our marriage. Not everything that went viral is true and as a man, I am brave enough to admit my own mistakes.

“What I did was wrong, I admit. Everyone makes mistakes. I have started a new life. Whatever people want to say, I have to face and accept,” he told Harian Metro online yesterday.

Aliff said upon his release, he returned home to his wife, newborn child and in-laws.

He said he immediately apologised to his wife, better known as Bella, upon their meeting.

“Praise be to God, she forgave me. Whatever it is, I am still her husband.

“I would like to clarify that I am not a ‘kaki pukul’ as reported. I did not hit her. Even in the police report, Bella did not say such a thing. Being caught in a struggle and being hit are two different things.

“It is true I was wrong, but she knows I would not go to that level. Incorrect news such as that makes Bella upset,” he said.

Aliff is expected to be charged in court today and promised to hold a press conference following that in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam.

He said he will reveal only salient details at the press conference, primarily on matters involving his marriage.

“The most important thing now is my marriage and my family,” he added.
