#Showbiz: British singer-songwriter Dua Lipa mesmerises fans with powerful vocals

KUALA LUMPUR: It was a full-house affair at KL Live where award-winning British singer-songwriter Dua Lipa held her solo concert last night.

However, the 2,500-strong crowd had to wait for more than an hour before the 22-year-old made her appearance on stage.

By 9pm, many started to become restless and began voicing their impatience by chanting her name loudly.

It didn’t take long for the popular songstress to finally came on stage, turning the chanting into ear-splitting screams.

Lipa was in top form showcasing not only her powerful vocals but also energetic showmanship.

She performed more than 15 songs including her hits Scared To Be Lonely, Blow Your Mind, IDGAF, New Rules, Thinking ‘Bout You, New Love, Homesick, Last Dance and Genesis.

“I’m so thankful to be here with you tonight,” she told the screaming crowd who was a great audience, dancing and singing along throughout her concert.

“I can’t tell you how lucky I am to be here all the way from the other side of the world.

“And I’m so glad to see you singing and dancing along with me. Thank you so much, Kuala Lumpur.”

The 90-minute concert, organised by IME Asia, marked Lipa’s second time performing in Malaysia.

In August last year, she was one of the international acts headlining the Good Vibes Festival in Genting Highlands.

Lipa’s musical journey began when she was 14, making cover songs on YouTube in 2009. But it was only in 2015 did she finally receive a recording contract from Warner Music Group.

To date, she boasts a full studio album, three EPs and nine singles.

Last year, she became the most streamed female artiste in the UK, according to Spotify’s year-end figures.

New Rules also earned her Best New Single award at the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Earlier this year, Lipa took home the British Breakthrough Act and British Female Solo Artiste awards at the 2018 Brit Awards.
