#Showbiz: BTS continues to top Billboard chart, agency Big Hit records highest profits!

KUALA LUMPUR: Looks like K-Pop phenomenon BTS is still making an impact on Billboard’s World Albums chart this week.

According to Soompi, the group’s popular Love Yourself series of releases have returned to the Top 3 spots.

Prior to this, the No. 1 spot was taken by the music outfit’s “little brother” group, TXT, last week in conjunction with the rookie band’s debut.

For the week ending on March 23, BTS’ Love Yourself: Answer is at the No. 1 spot, followed by Love Yourself: Tear, and Love Yourself: Her, to complete the perfect trifecta.

TXT’s The Dream Chapter: Star is now taking a backseat position at fourth place. The chart also registered BTS’ Face Yourself at No. 10.

The golden goose of Big Hit Entertainment, BTS’ unparalleled success is certainly translating to juicy profits for the agency.

Soompi also reported that Big Hit had disclosed its 2018 business performance report yesterday.

Apparently the agency’s fiscal year for 2018 saw a total revenue of 214.2 billion Won (about RM772 million), with operating profits at 64.1 billion Won (about RM231 million) and net profits at 50.2 billion Won (about RM181 million).

This meant that there was a 132 per cent increase in total sales, a 97 per cent increase in operating profits and a 105 per cent increase in net profits compared to the previous year’s performance.

The milestone moment was said to be Big Hit’s highest performing year ever since the company’s establishment in 2005.

Last year, BTS experienced enormous growth in sales from different areas, which include music, content, merchandise and video publication.

According to South Korea’s Gaon Chart data, the group sold over 4.05 million units of Love Yourself: Tear and over 5.15 million units of Love Yourself: Answer in 2018.

BTS’ packed touring schedule last year also saw the group’s seven members performing for 810,000 fans during its Love Yourself world tour.

A source from Big Hit said: “Continuing from 2017, BTS’ record-breaking activities have expanded and actively engaged in business aspects. Whether externally visible or in profit rates, it was a year that showed the highest performance in all aspects. In order to innovate the music industry’s business model, we are continuously pursuing change and improvements in our agency and we have achieved an important success that discovers new business.”
