KUALA LUMPUR: Cancer-stricken Shafuan Nor Azhar, 20, whose plight was highlighted by singer-songwriter Awi Rafael recently, is no more.
Awi, 32, who visited Shafuan at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital early this month, announced on Instagram today that he breathed his last at 8.45pm yesterday.
His parents and siblings were at his bedside.
Awi captioned the Instagram photo of his meeting with Shafuan poignantly. He said: “Farewell Adik Shafuan. May God protect you. We did our best, may you be beautiful and peaceful with God.”
Fellow artistes also expressed their heartfelt condolences, among them Saiful Apek and Mizz Nina.
Netizens Nurcahaya and Clara also posted heartfelt tributes to Shafuan.
“Syurga untuk mu adik,” said Nurcahaya.
“Condolences to his family. God loves him more. May he rest in peace,” said Clara.
Shafuan suffered from bone cancer and was looked after by his father and elder brother.
His mother has been bedridden following a stroke two years ago.
In Awi’s earlier Instagram post shortly after he visited Shafuan in hospital, he said that Shafuan was a “strong boy with a good heart” and added that he was moved by his courage.
