KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Maya Matahari breathed her last at 4pm today after succumbing to sarcoma cancer. She was 44.
Her passing was confirmed by fellow singer and friend, Haiza Hanafi who is also a radio announcer.
Haiza, in a news report today, said that she was still waiting for more details and funeral arrangements.
“I received a call from Ieda Moin, who informed me of this sad news. As of now, her remains are still at Sungai Buloh Hospital,” she said.
Haiza also said that she knew Maya was battling cancer and even underwent treatment in China.
“She didn’t share much about her illness. All I knew at the time was that she was already diagnosed with cancer when she participated in Gegar Vaganza Season 5 in 2018, and that she had just returned from China for treatment.”
Haiza said that the last time she had met Mya, whose full name is Myanaliza Ruslee, was when the latter was admitted into Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur end of last year.
“After that, we only kept in touch via telephone calls,” added Haiza.
A popular singer in the 1990s, among her hits were Matahari and Diari Biru. She made a comeback when she joined GV5
