#Showbiz: Veteran actress Wan Maimunah grateful for aid

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran actress Wan Maimunah could not help but be overcome with emotion when she received a group of guests at her home, recently.

A group of clergymen, led by Ustaz Sheikh Mohammad, visited her in Kota Puteri, Batu Arang in Selangor, and brought along with them some provisions for the 67-year-old actress and her family to consume during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

“I was contacted by the president of Persatuan Wartawan dan Penulis Hiburan Malaysia (WHAM), Datuk Tengku Khalidah Tengku Bidin, and she told me that a group of people wished to visit me.

“Alhamdulillah, thank you for coming, even though my house is quite far away. Only God could repay your kindness,” she said.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Muhammad, 40, said he hopes that his efforts in helping artistes, especially those in need, are not seen in a wrong light.

“Celebrities like ‘ibu’ (Wan Maimunah) have their own roles to play in society. It’s undeniable that their acting in any production with good moral values have some impact or influence among viewers,” he said.

Sheikh Mohammad has been collaborating with WHAM and artistes like Zul Yahya and Azza Zawari in identifying veteran artistes facing difficulties in adjusting to the MCO.

Others receiving assistance include Datuk Wazata Zain, Hail Amir, Norlia Ghani, Shima, Sophia Ibrahim, Mak Jah, S Rohani, Mimi Loma, S Mariam and Aripah Damanhuri.
