KUALA LUMPUR: Ailing veteran comedian Datuk Jamali Shadat, 78, can no longer self-manage and now relies on his children for physical and financial support.
His son, Fauzi, 48, said that his father was feeling depressed, and preferred to keep to himself most of the time.
This sudden change came following the death of his mother Datin Lela Yacob two years ago, said Fauzi in a recent news report.
He said that his father, a diabetic and suffered from hypertension, spent most of his time lying in bed.
"Although he is unwell, there are no signs of decreased in appetite. He is just depressed as he no longer has someone he can talk to constantly, even though sometimes I see him talking to my children," shared Fauzi.
During his heydays, Jamali was a popular funny man who could imitate a child's voice and that became his signature performance.
