#SHOWBIZ: Malaysian comedian Ronny Chieng honoured with 'Ronny Chieng Day' in Oahu

KUALA LUMPUR: US-based Malaysian comedian and actor Ronnie Chieng was honoured with an official Ronny Chieng Day on July 27 in Oahu, Hawaii.

The 38-year-old Johor Baru-born artiste shared the good news on his social media which was accompanied by a series of pictures and a short video of the proclamation by Oahu's mayor, Rick Blangiardi.

In the video, Blangiardi declared July 27, 2024 as Ronny Chieng Day in Oahu, "in deep appreciation for his excellence in multi-cultural comedy and the arts and his unwavering commitment to embracing the beauty, depth, and experience of multiracial cultures".

According to Says.com, Chieng lived in Oahu, the most populated and third-largest of the Hawaiian Islands, for a while during the filming of the medical dramedy series, Doogie Kamehāloha, M.D.

The comedian has called Hawaii a "safe haven" for him and his wife.

During his speech, Chieng said: "I hope with this proclamation, I can go from 'grateful guest' in Hawaii to a 'member of the ohana' here."

"I hope that I always give more than I take on Hawaii," he said.

Chieng, who currently hosts the popular US TV show, The Daily Show, has acted in Hollywood movies such as Crazy Rich Asians, Godzilla Vs Kong, Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Five Rings, and, Megan.
