#Showbiz: Haliza Misbun weds British national, receives house as hantaran

KUALA LUMPUR: Actress Haliza Misbun, 48, tied the knot with British national and widower with one child, Matthew John Rodgers, 48, at Masjid Ar Rahah, Kampung Kerinchi, here, on Saturday.

The solemnisation ceremony was conducted by Masjid Ar Rahah, Kampung Kerinchi marriage and divorce assistant registrar Ustaz Mohd Lazim Khairudin, with Haliza's brother Othman Misbun as her representative.

Conducted in accordance with strict SOP, the ceremony was attended by 50 guests.

Haliza received a mas kahwin of RM80 and hantaran in the form of a house as a symbolic gesture towards the establishment of their new family.

The groom's side presented three dulang hantaran that was reciprocated by Haliza with five in return.

Haliza said that she was grateful the event went along smoothly as planned in adherence to the SOP.

"This is my first marriage. Praise be to God, I am very grateful as all the things I have waited for are coming close to perfection. His presence has completed this life," she said in a news report on Saturday.

Haliza added that her relationship with her husband had begun almost four years ago.

"He has been living in Malaysia for the past nine years. We met through mutual friends. A gathering at a restaurant in Damansara Heights on an outing with friends is where our love for each other first ignited.

"After getting to know him for a year, I brought him to meet my family.

"I felt confident with his earnestness and we started to open up to each other on various aspects.

"Our individual life experiences have matured us and became a guiding factor in our compatibility," she said.

After the nikah, the newlyweds adjourned to a nearby hall for a small reception.

Haliza's husband also livestreamed their big day on Facebook for the benefit of his family and relatives in England.
