KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Kong's over-50 superstars Andy Lau and Leon Lai have been "beaten" in their game by an old friend best known for playing bad guys.
He is 1990s actor Roy Cheung, 59, whom Hong Kong netizens recently crowned as the Special Autonomous Region's Hottest Over 50 Actor in a social media poll.
Singaporean entertainment portal 8 Days reported yesterday that Cheung topped the list of 30 good-looking actors aged 50 and above, beating Lau, Lai and Ekin Cheng among others.
Cheung is best known for playing gangster chiefs and crime lords, and even though he faded out of show business a decade ago, fans have praised him for maintaining his good looks and women love his "bad boy" charm.
Cheung recently shared a photo of himself wearing a chest-baring T-shirt, with his white hair tied up in a ponytail. Fans loved that photo, and many even said that he resembled American style icon Nick Wooster.
The Young And Dangerous 3 antagonist is known for his humility and friendliness off-screen, and in 2020 he participated in a charity event which reunited actors and actresses from the 1980s and 1990s such as Benny Mok and Sharla Cheung.
Cheung travelled to Yushu, China for 10 days to deliver basic necessities to impoverished families there.
Cheung's acting career began in 1986 when he starred in the film Lost Romance. Two years later, he became famous as a villain in Ringo Lam's City On Fire.
His best known films include Aces Go Places 5, Fight Back To School, Wicked City, Young And Dangerous 3, Young And Dangerous 4, The Storm Riders, Play With Strangers, Chinese Odyssey 2002, Infernal Affairs 2, Moonlight In Tokyo, and The Assassins.
