KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Kong actor Nick Cheung Ka Fai has vivid memories of his time filming the horror movie Hungry Ghost Ritual here in 2013.
During his recent visit to the federal capital in conjunction with the Malaysian International Film Festival (MIFFest), Cheung, 59, said that he fondly remembered passing the century-old Pudu Jail, which was being demolished back then.
"People said that this prison couldn't be demolished. Has it been demolished now?" he said in a recent news report.
Upon learning that the LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre now occupies the site, he joked: "Is it safe?"
Cheung was in town to promote his coming film Peg O' My Heart which premiered in the Udine Far East Film Festival, Italy last April.
The horror film closed the Seventh MIFFest, and Cheung was honoured for Excellent Achievement In Film.
Cheung said: "I do have a fear of ghosts and needed someone to accompany me to the hotel room after filming Hungry Ghost Ritual then. Nevertheless I do enjoy the challenge of filming horror movies."
Cheung added that many of his colleagues cautioned him against making too many horror films as they "could bring bad luck".
"Times have changed. Whether we choose to watch horror movies or otherwise does not matter now," he said.
