KUALA LUMPUR: Former national football striker and national coach Datuk Zainal Abidin Hassan and singer Fyna Jebat have ended their marriage two weeks ago.
One of Zainal Abidin's family members, who declined to be named, told Harian Metro Online today that the couple ended their marriage because former Akademi Fantasia 9 second runner-up Fyna could not get along with her husband's first wife, Datin Zalina Zaini.
"Zainal's daughter, Zahira Aisyah, was right when she recently said that the marriage had come to an end. Both parties chose to go their separate ways as they felt it was best for them," said the relative.
Last week, Zahira said on Facebook that her father had divorced Fyna. She also questioned a social media post which said that Zalina and Fyna "got along".
"My mother did not make peace with anyone. And my father and Fyna have been divorced. Thank you," said Zahira.
It was reported on Jan 6 that Zainal Abidin, in his 60s, had tied the knot with 29-year-old Fyna, the younger sister of singer-actress Ayda Jebat.
Zainal, a popular footballer in the 1980s and 1990s, has three children from his first wife.
Fyna and Ayda won the RM25,000 second prize in the TV3 reality show Famili Duo on Feb 5.
The Melaka-born sisters lost to pop king Datuk Jamal Abdillah's sons Yamani Abdillah and Zaki Yamani who won the first prize of RM100,000 at the show's finals in Plaza Alam Sentral, Shah Alam.
