KUALA LUMPUR: Munafik and Mat Kilau director Syamsul Yusof, 39, and Puteri Sarah Liyana, 38, finally ended their marriage at 12.23pm today at the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Syariah Lower Court.
Syamsul, the son of filmmaker Datuk Yusof Haslam and elder brother of Polis Evo 3 director Syafiq Yusof, divorced Puteri Sarah with a single talak in front of Syarie judge Akmalluddin Ilyas, after the judge allowed Puteri Sarah's application for divorce under Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law Act (Federal Territories) 1984.
Akmalluddin registered the divorce and fixed a three-month "iddah" period for Puteri Sarah.
Syamsul and Puteri Sarah looked calm and greeted each other upon arriving at the court.
On May 25, the court was informed that there was no room for Syamsul and Puteri Sarah to reconcile as their marriage had been in trouble for four years.
A Reconciliation Committee (JKP) appointed by the court confirmed that there had been "shiqaq" (prolonged conflict) and the presence of a third party.
Puteri Sarah was represented by Syarie lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader and Syamsul was represented by Syarie lawyer Azmi Mohd Rais.
Syamsul and Puteri Sarah were married on March 8, 2014 and have two children Syaikhul Islam, 6 and Summayah, 4.
