#SHOWBIZ: Netizens react with shock, sympathy over Syamsul-Ira divorce

KUALA LUMPUR: Controversial film director Syamsul Yusof, 40, shocked many when he filed for divorce from his wife, Ira Kazar, yesterday, drawing widespread attention and comments on social media.

Some netizens expressed their sympathy and surprise by leaving comments on Ira's Instagram page, where she had recently posted photos posing with a horse.

Many offered words of encouragement, urging her to stay strong during this difficult time.

However, several netizens questioned the truth of the reports, asking whether Syamsul had indeed filed for divorce at the Gombak Lower Syariah Court in Selangor.

"Not wearing the wedding ring anymore," one netizen remarked.

"Is today's news true or just fake news?" another asked.

"That's how it goes. Time makes you forget people" commented another user.

"Is it true that Syamsul has filed for divorce? I came here after reading the news," said one netizen.

Meanwhile, Syamsul's lawyer, Azmi Rais, confirmed that his client had filed for divorce from Ira at the Gombak Lower Syariah Court at 2pm yesterday.

He said Syamsul cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for seeking a divorce.

Syamsul and Ira, whose real name is Faghirah Fatini Kazaruddin, the daughter of veteran actor Kazar Saisi, were married in Southern Thailand on Jan 6 last year.

The director confirmed their marriage through a video posted on his Instagram account in January last year.

Following the news of their marriage, Syamsul's first wife, actress Puteri Sarah, 39, filed for divorce.

The couple's divorce was finalised on June 14 last year.

Syamsul and Puteri Sarah, who married in March 2014, have two children, Syaikhul Islam, 7, and Sumayyah, 5.
