#Showbiz: Violin maestro Dennis Lau remains on top of his game [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's foremost pop violinist remains on top of his game and gave diners at the cosy Jao Tim Restaurant in Jalan Sultan a satisfying 90 minutes of non-stop entertainment today.

Lau gave fans jazzed up renditions of chart-topping tunes fused with classical melodies and his own compositions at his intimate Dennis Lau And Friends showcase which began at 8.30pm.

Lau, best know for his stylish playing that fuses traditional violin-playing with slick dancing and the occasional juggling act, was joined by popular Singaporean singer Aisyah Aziz and Malaysian singers Fara Dolhadi and Ronnie Jupiter who sang cover versions of popular hits, Lau's compositions and their own singles.

Other performers for the evening were pianist Ashley Jane Chan and saxophonist Jimmy Sax.

Lau's supporting band comprised experienced musicians Derrick Siow on drums, Gideon on bass, Wan Gigi on guitar and music director Sylvia Wong on keyboards.

Lau, 38, a music graduate from UCSI University began his musical journey at the age of 7 under the tutelage of world class musicians.

His evolution as a musician has been greatly influenced by Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Wang Lee Hom, Brian McKnight and John Mayer.

Lau has multiple awards under his belt, including the Malaysian Book of Records and BrandLaureate Awards.

Lau has shared the stage with some of Malaysia's renowned artistes and entertainment personalities including Ning Baizura, Lewis Pragasam, Datuk Syafinaz Selamat, Noryn Aziz, Atilia Haron, Dr Soo Wincci and Amber Chia.

His international collaborators include American guitarist Jamie Wilson and Taiwanese singer David Tao.

He has entertained VVIPs in Malaysia and overseas such as former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad and Prince William and Princess Catherine of Wales.
