KUALA LUMPUR: The government is still discussing a proposal to honour Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza with the Biduanita Negara title.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said in an interview with Harian Metro yesterday that his ministry was discussing the proposal and would do its best to honour the nation's number one entertainer.
"No decision has been reached, so we cannot comment on the proposal for now. We will do our best to ensure that the process of awarding Siti is sped up," said Fahmi.
Following the success of the pop queen's concert Konsert Sebuah Epitome: Saya Siti Nurhaliza at the Axiata Arena last March 9, many of her die-hard fans suggested that she be honoured with the Biduanita Negara title reserved for the best of female artistes.
Siti has in past interviews said that she was not placing high hopes on getting the title as what mattered most to her was to keep entertaining her fans.
Only two female artistes have been honoured with the title, namely Puan Sri Saloma and Datuk Sharifah Aini.
