KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran rocker Nasir Daud of Search said that his iconic rock band had said "no" to any individual who used their brand name to market various products.
Nasir, 65, said that Search was an institution in Malaysian music and should be treated with respect by fellow Malaysians.
"All of us in Search do not allow others to profit from our brand name. If you want to use the name of Search, it has to be for projects that truly involve us, and the future of Malaysian musicianship," said Nasir at the launch of the band's Sept 21 concert, Konsert Search Symphonic Live In Kuala Lumpur, at Royale Chulan Damansara Hotel in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya yesterday.
The two-hour concert organised by Persatuan Rekreasi Global Malaysia (PRGM) will be held at 8.30pm in the Mega Star Arena, Sungei Wang Plaza, Jalan Sultan Ismail here, and the rock band will be collaborating with a 30-member orchestra.
Nasir added: "It is much better for Search to share our musical journey and life lessons in colleges and universities, particularly with music students. They can learn the secrets of our success - what made us last for almost five decades and how we navigated various challenges over the years as musicians."
He also said that Search planned to groom new musicians to continue their legacy.
"This is what we are all about, our mission is to keep the Malaysian music industry, particularly the genre of Malaysian rock music going and growing."
