Search guitarist Din questions Amy's royalty demands from Kid'Din collection series

KUALA LUMPUR: Rock band Search's guitarist Din, whose real name is Noordin Mohd Taib, has questioned the demands made by Datuk Amy Search for royalties from the album compilation 'Rockology Search: Kid'Din Collection Series'.

The album, released with 17 Search memorabilia in 2021, he said, is merely a compilation of old songs, not a re-recording or new tracks.

"Those songs belong to Datuk M Nasir, and he has already given a statement in the press. He said what I am doing is correct.

"What royalties are Amy actually referring to? If it's Music Authors Copyright Protection (MACP) royalties, he will get them too. These are old registered songs.

"When radio stations play them or they are sung in karaoke, MACP will collect the royalties," he said.

Din said he could not believe that Amy, with over 40 years of experience as a singer, does not understand this.

"What exactly is he trying to point out? He can go to Luncai Emas and ask M Nasir himself.

"Rockology Search: Kid'Din collection series was only produced in 500 copies and is more of a fan collection," he said, adding that the album was his project alone, without involving other Search members.

"If you look, it's just Kid and me in the pictures. The title is Kid'Din Collection Series. I just used the Search logo; what's the problem?

"We need to understand each other. We've known each other for years. As friends, these matters need tolerance. He takes it so seriously that I can't even use a picture.

"What's the issue here? We've been friends for years. If you want to borrow my shirt, go ahead. You can even keep it," he said.

Din advised Amy to lower his ego and change his mentality.

"I am tired of seeing them. We're old, but this behavior doesn't stop. He treats the band like it is his property, and I am just an employee.

"He wants to control everything. He says there are no documents for royalties, but there are.

We were supposed to meet to discuss Rockology Search: Kid'Din Collection Series, but he did not show up," he said.
