#SHOWBIZ: HK actress Amy Yip opens hotel in Penang

KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Kong actress Amy Yip made her first visit to Malaysia last week for the opening of her boutique hotel in Penang.

Yip said on Instagram that her Sept 25 trip was to open her first business venture in the country and she plans to open three more hotels in the state.

The 58-year-old actress admitted that she had a fear of flying as a result of a past incident and has not taken a flight in almost two decades.

Yip said that many friends had invited her to visit Malaysia over the years but going through a Number 10 hurricane signal while aboard a plane to Taiwan left her traumatised — it circled in the sky for a while before turning back due to a lack of fuel.

Like every first-time visitor to Malaysia, Yip tasted Malaysian food during the visit and greatly enjoyed herself.

However, the actress admitted that she was no stranger to the durian because friends who often visited Malaysia shared the "king of the fruits" with her back in Hong Kong.

Yip has also savoured the expensive empurau fish which she recently bought for a dinner party in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, she said that friends had urged her to find love in Malaysia, but she was not in a hurry to do so.

"My ideal man should treat me well and be able to take good care of me," she said.
