#SHOWBIZ: 10-year jail term for former K-pop idol guilty of fatal drunk driving accident

KUALA LUMPUR: A former K-pop idol, Ahn Ye-song, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for causing a death while driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to Asiaone.com, a Seoul Central District Court judge announced the verdict against the 23-year-old artiste, who is now known as DJ Yesong.

She was found guilty under South Korea's Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes for dangerous driving and having fled the accident location, as well as the Road Traffic Act for avoiding taking post-accident measures and drunk driving.

Ahn was arrested after crashing into a motorcyclist at around 4.35am on Feb 3 in Gangnam district.

The victim, a delivery driver in his 50s, was flung from his motorcycle and died from the injuries sustained.

It was also reported that the incident was the result of Ahn fleeing the scene of an earlier accident that took place that same morning.

Her blood-alcohol level was found to be 0.221 per cent, which was above the threshold of 0.08 per cent for licence revocation in South Korea.

Ahn was a member of the now-defunct K-pop group Instar and has since been a DJ active in China.
