KUALA LUMPUR: The lead guitarist of local rock band Spider, Hanafi Hamdan or Napie, was rushed to Sungai Buloh Hospital after suffering a stroke while at Studio Luncai Emas in Sungai Buloh, Selangor last night.
Spider's vocalist Tam said that Napie, who is also a sound engineer at the studio, was doing his work while being accompanied by Datuk M Nasir's son, Hidayat, at the time, according to Harian Metro.
"Fortunately, Hidayat was with us. Hidayat initially asked if Napie was okay or not. Usually Napie would be panting when going up the stairs to the studio.
"He's always like that. In the last two or three years, I've seen him suffer from shortness of breath many times. So even Hidayat didn't feel anything strange last night.
"Suddenly Hidayat heard something fall and immediately ran to get Napie who had collapsed but did not pass out. I think it happened around 9pm," he told Harian Metro.
Tam added that he was informed by a friend of the incident and decided to head over to the studio.
"I saw that there were friends who were attending to him. He seemed to be rambling because oxygen wasn't getting to his brain. I also felt like he was going to have a stroke because he couldn't move his arm.
"The medical team that was contacted then arrived and immediately put him in the ambulance to be taken to the hospital," he said.
Tom added that Napie's wife had informed him that the guitarist had suffered a stroke but she did not explain further on the matter.
"Anyway, I'm waiting for more information from his wife. God willing, Aie (Spider's drummer) and I will visit him today," he said.
Earlier, Spider lost its former bass player, Tony Iskandar, on June 30, 2021.
Tony was found dead in the same recording studio.
