#SHOWBIZ: Drummer Fendy buys back Caliph Buskers song

KUALA LUMPUR: Blind drummer Fendy Adlun has repurchased a song called Azalea from his former band, Caliph Buskers, and released it as his first single.

According to a Harian Metro report today, the 33-year-old artiste said that the music and lyrics to Azalea were completely created by him and had been produced nine years ago when his daughter, Nur Azalea Zafirah, was born.

"The process to releasing this song had many obstacles. It was originally intended to be given to Caliph Buskers and the recording process was done in 2018.

"We proposed this song to the record label where I would be singing it. But they didn't want that because they prefered Azmi to sing on it.

"So this song was benched and eventually marginalised. In 2021, I felt like releasing the song.

"I bought it back from Caliph Buskers, paid all the costs and reworked it with a new arrangement. I thought that it would be able to come out that year but it was still delayed until now," he said.

Fendy added that now was the right time to release the song inspired by his only child from his marriage with his ex-wife, Nadira Rubyna.

"When I'm feeling down, I'll listen to this song alone. Now that I'm a single father taking care of my child alone, sometimes there are times when I feel down too.

"No one is always happy. When our children misbehave, we'd get stressed as well. When I calm down, I sit alone and listen to this song to raise my spirit to continue the fight to raise Azalea.

"Alhamdulillah, this song has been well received by listeners. Many comments on YouTube say it's good. Many are supportive. My hope is that it will bring rezeki to us," he said.

Nur Azalea Zafirah who is also visually impaired and autistic now studies at a special school in town.
