#SHOWBIZ: Food is the best part about filming in Penang, says Ning Chang

KUALA LUMPUR: Taiwanese actress Ning Chang, 41, recently came to Malaysia to promote her new movie, A Place Called Silence, which was shot in Penang.

In a press conference held at Dadi Cinema in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Bukit Bintang, she said that the food was the best part about filming in the Pearl Of The Orient.

"Penang has so many delicious foods such as laksa, cendol and kuay teow. I could eat them day and night," she said.

However, Ning Chang said that she was not worried about gaining weight because she was "always on the go" as an actress.

"Even though I sometimes eat a lot, I burn all the calories during filming," she said.

A Place Called Silence is directed by Malaysian filmmaker Sam Quah.

The thriller and tear-jerker tells the story of Yutong (Angela Wang), a mute high school student who suffers relentless bullying.

Despite her mother Li Han's (Chang) efforts to protect her, the violence only exacerbates, fuelled by the school teachers' collective silence.

Yutong's bullies meet gruesome ends and she mysteriously disappears.

A Place Called Silence has raked in RM1 million at the local box office since its premiere on Aug 8.

It is the second-highest grossing summer film of 2024 in China, earning RM806 million.
