KUALA LUMPUR: Popular director and actor Syamsul Yusof is ready to divorce his wife Ira Kazar but accepts the fact that the proceedings had to be postponed today.
The 40-year-old artiste's lawyer, Azmi Rais, said that his client had been informed about Ira's absence at the Gombak Timur Syariah Lower Court, here today since Syamsul's wife, as the defendant, had just appointed a lawyer.
"Syamsul was okay and calm after being informed that the divorce proceedings that were supposed to take place today would be postponed to another date because Ira had just appointed a lawyer, today.
"In fact, the lawyer representing Ira, Fadil Abd Razak, was also unable to attend court today because he had business in Johor. So, the mention for this couple's divorce will held on Sept 25.
"Syamsul is ready to pronounce it (divorce) to Ira, but he accepts the situation that took place today and will have to wait until the new date," he said in a Harian Metro report today.
Earlier, Azmi was met by the media at the syariah court accompanied by a representative for Ira's lawyer, Ahmad Fuad Borhan.
On Aug 19, Azmi confirmed that Syamsul had filed for divorce against Ira as the two were no longer in agreement in their marriage.
Syamsul and Ira tied the knot on Jan 6 last year in Southern Thailand.
