RIZWAN Yasin, alias One Juicy, may not register a blip on music lovers' radars yet, but he is a rising star in the Malaysia music scene.
He has officially launched his latest single titled 'Kibar' and it is his "anthem of hope".
The Sabahan of Bajau descent, who was born and bred in Kota Kinabalu, unveiled his first major milestone as a singer in a ceremony at Code 19 @ JioSpace, Petaling Jaya, Selangor recently.
The event was also attended by pop legend Datuk Zainalabidin who is One's music mentor.
RESILIENCE
One, 33, said that 'Kibar' was a song that carried the theme of resilience and determination, and it had already garnered attention prior to its release.
"This song has now been officially launched along with its music video, which was filmed around iconic locations in Kuala Lumpur," he said, adding that the video enabled him to display his slick dance moves which included stylish body flips.
Kibar was co-produced by One, John Jeeves, Shazriq Azeman, and Omar K under the auspices of Super Red Records.
One, who comes from a talented family, expressed his excitement over the launch of his first single.
"I am incredibly excited about the launch of 'Kibar'.
"This song reflects my life journey, from being a B-boy dancer with Giller Battle Crew to becoming a singer.
"I hope that 'Kibar' will inspire everyone who listens to it."
SUCCESS
Super Red Records' co-founder Richard Chua shared his pride in One's success.
"One Juicy is an artiste full of dedication and possesses an extraordinary spirit.
"'Kibar' is the result of his hard work, and it marks a great beginning in his music career.
"We at Super Red Records are very proud to work with him and are confident that this song will be well received by Malaysian music lovers."
Chua also said that the launch of 'Kibar' and its music video had heightened excitement and held great promise for One's artistic journey.
One said that he adopted his stage name when he first became a street dancer two decades ago in his hometown.
He said that when he entered his first dance contest when he was a teenager, a judge described his moves as "juicy" which is American street lingo for "good".
MENTOR
One is the brother of former TV3 reality talent show 'Mentor' Season 1's winner Norafizah Yasin or Pija (the protege of Zainalabidin) and singer-actress Naufara Yasin.
Both his sisters also participated in 8TV reality talent show 'One In A Million' Season 3.
Giller Battle Crew, which also has One's brother Weiskarnain Yasin as a member, participated in the 8TV dance reality show 'Showdown' in 2010 and finished as the runner-up behind Wakaka.
He is the 11th of 12 siblings and looks up to music legends James Brown, Michael Bolton, Datuk M. Nasir and Zainalabidin.
Zainalabidin said that he first got to know One when he was mentoring Pija in 'Mentor' in 2005.
"He turned up every week to support Pija and I learnt that the Yasin siblings were very musically inclined and talented.
"So some years ago when he decided to make a switch from dancing to singing I gave him my fullest support."
