#SHOWBIZ: Divorced HK actress Cindy Au 'really needs money'

KUALA LUMPUR: Former TVB actress Cindy Au is planning on taking more on-screen work following her divorce from Hong Kong actor Roger Kwok in May.

In a recent interview with HK01, Au shared that her decision comes as she "really needs money".

"I really need money now. Many people in Hong Kong are in the same situation," the 44-year-old said.

After marrying Kwok, 59, in 2006, Au stepped back from the entertainment scene to focus on taking care of their two children Brad, 16, and Blair, 13.

The actress later pursued a master's degree in nutrition.

Au admitted that she felt out of touch after being away from showbiz for so long.

"I lack experience. I haven't filmed any dramas since 2005, so I'm quite out of touch.

"Most of the time, I was busy taking care of my children during the day and studying at night. I didn't even keep up with the news.

"It's like I've returned to Earth from Mars, so I need to learn how to make money," she said.

Au said that her biggest expense was rent.

"I had to ask many people for advice as I was afraid of being scammed," she said.

"I haven't worked or had any income for many years, so I don't have a pot of gold."

Au and Kwok announced their divorce on May 2, revealing that they have been separated for two years.

Au chose to have her name excluded from Kwok's assets worth HK$90 million (RM48.7 million) to "avoid complications".
