#SHOWBIZ: Batik-inspired 'Venom' art by Arif Rafhan, unique traditional-pop culture fusion

KUALA LUMPUR: Renowned local artist Arif Rafhan has created a striking art series that combines the iconic Marvel character Venom with Malaysia's traditional batik art.

This fusion of pop culture and heritage celebrates the upcoming release of Venom: The Last Dance while highlighting Malaysia's rich artistic legacy.

The Venom x Batik Inspired Art Series reimagines Venom through intricate batik patterns, blending the character's dark, chaotic energy with the elegance and vibrancy of batik.

Arif Rafhan's artwork brings a fresh perspective to Venom, merging sharp, bold visuals with the fluid forms of traditional Malaysian motifs, according to a statement from Sony Pictures Malaysia.

"We're proud to collaborate with Arif Rafhan on this unique project. It's a perfect example of blending global pop culture with local heritage," said Sony Pictures Entertainment Malaysia managing director, Simon Foo.

Arif Rafhan shared his thoughts on the project: "Venom's strong visual identity made it exciting to combine with batik, which is deeply personal to me. It's a celebration of both worlds."

This collaboration highlights the connection between global and local culture, offering Malaysian audiences a fresh take on the Venom universe.

The art series will be featured across digital platforms and in cinemas at GSC locations during the release of Venom: The Last Dance, which is set to open in cinemas on Oct 24.
