KUALA LUMPUR: "I was shocked when I heard about the arrest. Because for as long as I have known the female singer involved, she has always had a good personality, speaks softly, respects others, and is easy to work with," said famous Kelantanese composer, Eddie Hamid.
Eddie, whose full name is Abdul Hamid Adenan, 62, said that he initially found it hard to believe the news of the arrest and thought that the singer might have been 'caught' in a situation due to being in a group.
It was reported earlier that the 29-year-old singer was among six Malaysians detained by Thai police for possessing 6,000 Yaba pills valued at over RM90,000 in Sungai Golok town early yesterday.
"I am confident she is innocent. It's just that she may be a victim of circumstance as she went there (to Sungai Golok, Thailand) as part of a group. Nevertheless, I wish her all the best with her affairs there.
"I hope she is okay because the drug laws in Thailand are not the same as those in our country. However, this is what we call a test of life.
"By the way, I actually have a new collaboration with her to record two songs. One of them is scheduled for recording in the studio this Monday, but that will have to be postponed for now," he said.
When asked if he planned to replace the singer with someone else, Eddie said he would not do so because he believes the songs he created are well-suited to her voice.
"I will wait for her until the (drug) case is resolved. This is because the two songs I have created really suit her vocal style. Besides, we still do not know if she is truly guilty or not since the investigation is ongoing.
"Moreover, I have sent her the demo lyrics of the songs that are to be recorded, and she already knows the plans to enter the studio for the recording. For me, what is happening is a trial from Allah," he said.
Earlier, the media reported that six individuals, including a popular female singer from Kelantan, were among those arrested in Sungai Golok, Thailand, in connection with a drug case.
The female artist is said to have previously popularised a song in the Kelantan dialect that went viral and became a phenomenon throughout Malaysia.
