SEPANG: Comedian Muhammad Nizamuddin Ahmad, better known as Along Cham was charged at the Sessions Court here, today on charges of possessing 58.23 grams of marijuana.
The accused pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out before Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman.
The 41-year-old artiste and former Raja Lawak participant, who was represented by lawyer Mohd Fadly Hashim, was charged under Section 39A (2) of the 1952 Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB).
If found guilty, Along Cham could face life imprisonment or prison for no less than five years and no less than 10 strokes of the rotan.
During the proceedings, the comedian had asked to be put on bail but was rejected by the judge.
Ahmad Fuad also directed that the chemical report of the accused be submitted to the court and for the case to be referred to again on Jan 27.
According to the indictment, Along Cham is suspected of possessing 58.23 grams of marijuana.
The comedian was detained at his home in Cyberjaya, last Saturday.
The media previously reported that the celebrity's urine test results were positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), while police investigations found the suspect had no previous police records or investigations.
