#SHOWBIZ: Killa Driz showcases a new facet with 'Cuci Mata'

EMERGING as a standout name in Malaysia's hip-hop scene, Killa Driz reveals a deeper layer of his artistry with his latest single, 'Cuci Mata'.

Released under Def Jam Southeast Asia, the track not only carries a lighthearted melody but also showcases Killa Driz's versatility and evolving musical identity.

Inspired by a casual moment with a female friend, the song began as a playful idea but soon developed into a piece that offers fresh insights into social dynamics.

Notably, Killa Driz, whose real name is Idris Shah, incorporates a feminine perspective, addressing themes often overlooked by male artistes with sensitivity and creativity.

"I wanted to create something fresh.

"'Cuci Mata' tells a story about how women also appreciate 'eye candy.'

"It's a fun and relatable topic, and I hope listeners connect with the story while enjoying its laid-back vibe," he said.

Killa Driz adopted a freestyle approach to the song's creation, relying on a melody that had lingered in his mind for some time.

The process became a journey of self-discovery, enabling him to share a more cheerful side of his multifaceted personality.

"People often associate me with a tough rapper image, but I've always loved storytelling. This track reflects a different, lighter side of me," he said, citing Joe Flizzow, SonaOne and Alyph as key influences.

The accompanying music video further highlights Killa Driz's creative vision, portraying dual personas: the bold and daring 'Killa' and the elegant, refined 'Driz'.

Filmed at the luxurious Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur, the video, directed by Irfan, draws inspiration from suave characters like James Bond and Bruce Wayne, blended with Killa Driz's signature flair.

"The video concept captures sophistication and fun, while my close friend, Siti Harisa, adds a dramatic yet relatable touch to the story," he said.

With 'Cuci Mata' marking his second release under Def Jam Southeast Asia, Killa Driz is now channelling his focus on completing his debut album.
