Lewis Pragasam, a celebrated figure in Malaysia's jazz scene, passed away today at 3 am.
Pragasam was revered as one of Asia's most esteemed percussionists and a trailblazer in the fusion of Asian and Western music.
He founded the groundbreaking Asiabeat project in 1979, which has since become a legendary name in the music world for its unique blend of musical styles. His collaborations with world-famous artists like Paul Jackson and Tony Levin, and performances at major international festivals, including for Prince Charles, underscored his global acclaim.
Pragasam passed away peacefully at Beacon Hospital in Petaling Jaya, surrounded by his family and friends, following a heart attack.
