4 killed in head-on collision

TELUK INTAN: FOUR people were killed and two others seriously injured in a crash involving two cars at Km44 Jalan Teluk Intan-Sitiawan here on Sunday.

The dead have been identified as Mohd Amin Mat Yusuf, 52, his wife Norkhaijan Tukiran, 43, M. Pusparani, 36, and her son R. Sanjeet, 31 months.

The injured were Pusparani’s husband, K. Ravi, 40, and the couple’s other son, R. Balacanderao, 5.

Amin and Norkhaijan’s son, Mohd Haziq Mohd Amin, 6, escaped with minor bruises.

In the 11.30pm incident, the car, driven by Norkhaijan, was on its way home to Changkat Lada, Seberang Perak, after celebrating Hari Raya at a relative’s house in Sepang.

Ravi and his family were on their way home to Taman Metah, Jalan Maharaja Lela, after attending a celebration at an Indian temple in Kayan, Sitiawan.

Hilir Perak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, who confirmed the incident, said both cars were headed in the opposite direction. He said when both cars approached the accident scene, one of them skidded into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the other car.

“The impact of the crash caused severe damage to both cars and trapped the occupants.

“ Firemen and passers-by helped to remove the occupants from the cars.

“Amin and Sanjeet died at the scene, while Pusparani died on her way to Teluk Intan Hospital. Norkhaijan died at 4.08pm today, while being treated at the same hospital.

“Ravi sustained serious injuries, while Balacanderao has been sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh after his condition worsened.”

Haziq, when met, said “kereta laju” (car speeding), “ada kereta langgar kereta ayah” (someone knocked into dad’s car), “keadaan gelap dan takut“ (it was dark and scary) and “ayah tak bergerak” (dad was not moving).

Amin’s sister, Siti Rokiah Mohd Yusuf, said the family had just celebrated Hari Raya in Sepang.

“He was a talkative person but for the last two days, he had been quiet. We were surprised.

“I received a phone call at 11.50pm from a man, believed to be a tow-truck operator, informing me about the accident.

“We were shocked but we accepted it as Allah’s will.”
