MRT CEO resigns after incident that killed 3

SUNGAI BULOH: Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT) chief executive officer Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid tendered his resignation today, less than 24 hours after a concrete block collapsed in Kota Damansara last night resulting in three deaths.

He told reporters as the CEO of MRT, he was personally responsible for the incident.

"I have informed the chairman, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and will be submitting my resignation letter to him today.

"I know my resignation will not bring back the lives of the three workers but I believe is it the correct thing to do," he said.

Azhar said preliminary investigation showed that the concrete block had collapsed because contractors did not adhere to “work methods”.

He added action will be taken against those responsible.
