KUCHING: Five policemen were among eight people detained in connection with a shooting that took place during a botched robbery attempt on an illegal Internet gaming outlet yesterday.
The case came to light when a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound sought treatment at Kota Samarahan Hospital at 4am.
Investigations revealed the victim and three others had attempted to rob an illegal gaming outlet.
However, the robbery failed when one of them was shot by an off-duty policeman at the scene.
“There were five plainclothes policemen at the scene when the case occurred,” said Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman yesterday.
“We have detained all five policemen and confiscated their firearms along with three other alleged robbery suspects to get details on this case. We want to know what (the policemen) were doing there at that time.”
