Najib offers condolences to Cameron Highlands flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today posted a condolence message to the victims of Ringlet mud flood and landslide in Bertam Valley, Cameron Highlands yesterday.

“I would like to express my sympathy to the family of the deceased as well as for the loss of the victims' belongings in the incident,” he said.

He posted the Facebook message at about 1pm today. Najib also posted a tweet on the matter.

Najib also cautioned the public to be on the alert in the wake of the ongoing rainy season.

“Please be on guard to face any possibility,” he said.

Meanwhile, district police chief Deputy Superintendent Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said three deaths were recorded.

The victims were 13-year old C. Tunesh, Nepalese Md Yousuf Miya, 46, and an Indonesian identified as Apian, 48.

It was reported that more than 20 houses in Ringlet town, Ringlet New Village and Kampung Ulu Merah Ringlet were submerged in knee-deep muddy water after continuous heavy rain yesterday which caused Sungai Ringlet to overflow.

A total of 150 people from 37 families were evacuated to the Ringlet multipurpose hall at 10pm last night.
