LABUAN: Over 800 people were made homeless in a fire that razed about 120 houses at the Gersik Saguking water village here.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue department said a man and a fireman were injured in the fire which started from about 6pm yesterday.
"Six fire engines were dispatched to the village and the fire was controlled from spreading after about 90 minutes," he said adding the fire was put out at about 10pm.
Investigations will be carried out to determine the cause of fire and the losses incurred, the spokesman said.
The water village is by a majority of immigrants who work on the island as well as a small number of locals.
