GUA MUSANG: An elderly couple died instantly when an incendiary device, believed to be a homemade bomb, exploded on their motorcycle this morning.
The couple, identified as Cha Mok Liong and his wife Fong Ah Fong, both 72-years-old, were on their motorcycle headed to a nearby food stall along Km 10 Jalan Gua Musang-Kampung Pulai when the incident occurred.
Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Saiful Bahri Abdullah said the two rubber tappers from Kampung Batu Papan 2 suffered serious head and bodily injuries and died on the spot.
The explosion rocked residents of the usually idyllic area and caused a commotion.
The road was later blocked off by police to enable the Kelantan police forensic team to comb the area for clues.
It was learnt that the explosion was so great that policemen found pieces of flesh as far as 100 metres away from the scene.
Saiful said were still investigating the incident and have yet to ascertain a motive behind the killing.
No arrests have been made so far.
Meanwhile, a relative of the couple, Abdul Rahman Abdullah, 53, was alerted by a friend over the incident.
“I rushed over immediately as soon as I was told. I saw two bodies on the ground in a pool of blood,” he said.
Kelantan police are expected to hold a press conference on the case later this evening.
