SEGAMAT: A 30-year-old man was killed in an altercation yesterday after a dispute allegedly sparked by the loud revving of his motorcycle in Taman Sejati, Batu Anam.
District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the 9pm incident involved a group of men and women and led to the man's death due to severe injuries from a parang attack.
Police arrested two men and a woman, aged between their teens and 40s, at 12.30am today.
Additionally, three other men, not involved in the attack but believed to have damaged vehicles belonging to the suspect and his family members parked in front of his house, were also taken into custody.
"Police's initial investigations revealed the victim and his friends were outside the suspect's house on their motorcycles, allegedly revving their bike throttles. The suspect then confronted the victim, but the situation quickly escalated into a physical attack. The suspect allegedly used a parang to attack the deceased, who succumbed to slash wounds," Zamry said in a statement today.
He added that the victim's friends, who tried to break up the fight, suffered minor injuries and received outpatient treatment. In retaliation, several of the victim's friends allegedly damaged vehicles at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Sections 148 and 302 of the Penal Code, with the murder charge carrying the death penalty upon conviction. The men arrested for allegedly damaging vehicles and causing public disorder may face a maximum two-year jail sentence, a fine, or both.
Zamry also noted that the main suspect in the murder investigation has seven prior criminal records.
