KLUANG: For three days, 68-year old Johar Kassim did not know if he would live or die.
Early this week, he was reversing his taxi on a narrow road here when the taxi suddenly fell into a 4.6 metre ravine.
Johar could not do anything as the Proton Saga tumbled down the ravine, crashing into trees before coming to an abrupt stop at the very bottom.
Injuring his right leg, Johar soon realised he could not climb out of the ravine.
For two nights, it rained heavily. Trapped in his car, Johar drank rain water to survive.
The taxi driver was finally rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department today.
Firemen brought him out with the help of a crane at 4.03pm. They were alerted to Johar's situation by a member of the public.
Kluang Fire and Rescue commander Akob Sedek said a team of six firemen arrived at the scene and found him weak and starving.
"The victim's right leg was injured. He told us he was reversing his taxi (a Proton Saga) when it went into the ravine."
Johar's vehicle was not equipped with a radio, and he also did not have a handphone.
The victim was sent to the Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom, here.
"The ravine was not that deep, but because of his injury, he was unable to climb out of it," Akob added.
