KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Corp) expects to begin renting out 100 units of electric cars to certain segments of the public in the near future.
The firm earlier today introduced two units of Tesla S 85 - the first of its kind into the Malaysian market, and said they are ironing out some regulations and tax-related issues before moving forward with this proposed initiative.
"We will give first allocation to the government and government-linked companies (GLC) to register their interest for the cars," said GreenTech Corp chief executive officer, Ahmad Hadri Haris.
"We strongly encourage these government and GLC entities to use these electric cars as their official cars so as to pave the way for greater usage of electric cars among the public later down the line," he told reporters during a media luncheon held here.
"We intend to properly propose this to the cabinet and hopefully if all goes to plan, we can bring the first 10 units in the first quarter of 2016."
Ahmad Hadri said he is hopeful that his firm will be able to deliver all 100 units by the end of 2016.
