Two injured in bus, trailer accident along Karak Highway [VIDEO]

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men were injured in a road accident involving a bus and a trailer truck at KM35.1 of the Karak Highway, near Genting Sempah, earlier today.

The 9.45am incident, which saw the truck land on its side, caused a massive traffic jam at the highway's city-bound lanes.

Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Ali Ahmad said initial investigation revealed that the accident happened due to a technical problem with the truck's brakes.

"The trailer was transporting scrap metal from Marang to Kuala Lumpur. The truck was going uphill at a corner when the incident happened at about 9.45am.

"An initial probe found that the truck had a brake problem, which caused it to slip backwards before landing on its side.

"At the same time, the driver of a stage bus behind tried to steer the vehicle away from the truck. The bus then skidded before it stopped at the road shoulder," he said.

Ali said the incident left the truck's assistant driver with a broken left leg, while one of the bus passengers suffered a minor injuries to his shoulder.

Both victims were brought to the Selayang Hospital for treatment.
