KOTA KINABALU: A 40-year-old man was found dead in a budget hotel here on Friday night.
Police made the discovery after the wife of the deceased alerted them after she smelled a foul stench coming from the room he was renting.
"Police received the report around 7.20pm and went to the location at Read Palm Hostel, Jalan Gaya. Upon opening the door, they found his lifeless body on the bed.
"A medical officer from the hospital then confirmed his death," said district police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra.
He added that based on investigations, the wife said the deceased, Jeson Chin Chia Syn, had gone to Sandakan on Wednesday to visit her mother who is sick with cancer.
She last saw him that day and the last contact made was on Thursday morning when the deceased complained of chest pains.
"According to the wife, the deceased suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure and was on medication. Initial checks on the body found no visible injuries, and no signs of an altercation in the room," he added.
The body was brought to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for autopsy.
