DAP suspends its MP & assemblyman for disparaging party

MALACCA: DAP has suspended its Kota Melaka Member of Parliament Sim Tong Him and Duyong state assemblyman Goh Leong San for a year for disparaging the party.

Sim and Goh were suspended by the party's disciplinary committee for repeatedly making statements against the party stemming from a previous legal suit against a fellow DAP member.

Sim when contacted today said he was surprised by the decision.

"I did not know about it until I received calls from the press informing me of my suspension this evening.

"When I checked my email, I saw a message from disciplinary committee secretary Tai Xing Piao saying that Goh and I have been suspended for a year beginning today."

It is learnt that the duo can appeal their suspension to the central executive committee within 14 days.

Sim expressed disappointment at the suspension, describing it as untimely as it was done just two days before the Chinese New Year.

"Sometimes, we do not face obstacles from the outside, but from the inside.

"I will not appeal and I will only make an official statement when I get an official letter on my suspension."

When contacted, Goh, who is also the former DAP state chief, declined to comment.
